Bella Acapella is the only Barbershop Chorus in Portugal. We are proud to say that we have been singing for over 15 years, we are associated with BiBA (Barbershop IBerian Association) and throughout the years have won various medals within this association, most recently the Gold medal of the Iberian chorus competition 2024.

We are a gender-inclusive chorus for singers of all ages and all nationalities. We sing mainly English songs in 4 part close harmony (‘barbershop style’). We are open to new members who like to sing and have the energy to invest time and talent in our community. Even if you have never sung before, we can help you get familiar with our way of singing. Knowledge of how to read sheet music is of course helpful but by no means necessary.

Our repertoire is quite diverse and includes American classics, Musical songs, Pop songs and Evergreens. We sing songs such as: “Summertime” and “Java Jive” and more modern pieces such as “Rhythm Of Love”, “Untill I found You”, ”Count On Me” and ”The Climb”. Barbershop harmony is sung in four parts without instrumental accompaniment.

All members live in the Algarve and most originate from England, Ireland, Germany, France and The Netherlands. During rehearsals the common language is English. Every Wednesday we rehearse in the Re-Criativa Cultural Center in Olhão and enjoy an evening of singing and friendship. It is great fun but also hard work. Our Musical Director (conductor) is Rob Does. We love our dynamic and musically gifted conductor
and we feel that, regardless if we have sung for many years or are new in the chorus, we are learning
every week and we all feel that singing is a great way to relax, enjoy, work hard and feel satisfied.

Bella Acapella has performed numerous concerts and ‘sings outs’ and always receive enthusiastic reactions from the audience. All songs are sung “By Heart” without sheet music. This often creates a magical atmosphere where conductor and chorus craft a fascinating blend of music with some ringing four part chords!
